The latest Global Innovation Index 2012 (GII) ranks 141 countries overall innovation performance.  Switzerland, Sweden, and Singapore are followed in the top 10 by Finland, the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, and the US.  It points to the emergence of new successful innovators, as well as good performances from emerging countries such as Latvia, Malaysia and China.  On average, high-income countries outpace countries with less income per capita by a wide margin across the board.  The index is published by INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
